SPIRAL VEIN WEB is a 3-week online workshop that looks to the organic shapes of nature as inspiration for the way we think about writing songs.
How can the earth’s architecture invite us to explore new terrain as artists?
In this workshop, we’ll delve into the sacred geometry of the spiral, the vein, and the web; talk about song structure, pacing, density, texture, and narrative; analyze audio examples by songwriters across different genres; and experiment with new shapes for our own songs.
The workshop will be a mix of lecture, discussion, in-class writing exercises, and prompts for you to try at home.
This is for you if:
You’re a seasoned songwriter looking to experiment with new forms
You’re a newbie songwriter looking for a way into the labyrinth of ideas
You want to engage in a positive, supportive, generative creative community
You consider yourself a nature lover, or would like to be
You like extended metaphors, earnestness, and lots of exclamation points in the chat!
What you’ll get:
Inspiration to chart new territory in your writing
Accountability in community
A heightened awareness of the natural world
Recordings of each class
