Writing the Wheel, facilitated by Nandi Rose (Half Waif), is a one-day, five-hour intensive songwriting workshop aimed at reinvigorating and reimagining how we think about songs, using the earth’s circles and cycles as a guide.
Held on the eve of the Winter Solstice, we will talk about seasonal frameworks for writing, lay foundations for sustainable creative practice, and begin to craft new songs that feel expansive and propulsive—with the forward momentum of the wheel.
This workshop is a mix of lecture, perspective-shifting writing exercises, song case study analysis, share sessions, and longer form prompts, all grounded in the rhythms of nature. It is a chance to both ritualize and systematize the creative process. Together, we will hone new hands-on songwriting skills while also more broadly examining what it means to build our own “creative ecologies”—models of artistic practice that feel connected to the living world and that will fuel us for years to come.
What you will come away with:
new song ideas, rituals, and practices
expanded language for how you think and talk about melody, harmony, lyrics, and song structure
a keener eye for observing the landscape and transforming it into music that moves, challenges, soothes, and catalyzes you
a community of like-minded artists who are seeking a creative path that is close to the heart and close to the land
Who this is for:
Seasoned songwriters who are feeling stuck, burned out, or bored with their practice
Those who are new to songwriting and seeking a way in
Nature lovers, eco-philosophers, and other environmentally curious artists
Anyone eager to engage in deep creative community
All ages and levels of experience
Class size is capped at 12 for a meaningfully small and intimate environment in which to learn and share.
